Drivers of public mini-van go on
being on strike because of raising fuel price.
As one of the drivers of the route N 73 told Arminfo
correspondent, all the participants in the morning strike have already gone
home and are not going to work.
Meanwhile, the head of the Transport Department of the
Yerevan Mayor's Office, Henrik Navasardyan, assured that the problem had been
settled and an arrangement was made according to which the drivers will go on
working in a normal regime.
Armenia's Premier Hovik Abrahamyan told journalists
that fuel prices were reduced from 230 to 200 drams for one square meter.
To recall, scores of Yerevan public mini-van drivers
have been on strike for the past three days, protesting the rise in fuel prices
that is hitting them in the pocketbook. The drivers have proposed several
solutions including state regulation of fuel prices. If the latter isn't
practical, they have suggested fuel subsidies or that taxes levied on route
owners be lightened. This morning, striking drivers in the Sebastia district of
Yerevan called on other drivers and commuters to join their work stoppage. Drivers
in the Nor Nork district also staged a walk-out.
