ARFD: Not all Armenians of Syria are eager to return to Motherland

The Armenian community of Syria will not disappear due to the domestic political crisis in Syria, Kiro Manoyan, Head of ARFD Bureau's Hay Dat and Political Affairs Office, said at today's press conference.

He said that the Armenian community in Syria is consolidated and it has got through many difficulties.  Probably, the representatives of the Armenian community will want to temporarily leave Syria for Armenia, but the community in general will be preserved, he said. Manoyan also stressed that the Government of Armenia should provide every possible support to the Armenians of Syria. 

As regards the Armenian community's position on the ongoing processes in Syria, Manoyan said that though the Armenians of Syria mostly keep neutrality, nevertheless, they would not like to see the defeat of the incumbent President Bashar Assad, as during his presidency the Armenian community prospered.  Armenians are afraid of uncertainty, they do not know what steps another president will take, therefore, they do not want to see Assad's defeat. However, Manoyan does not rule out the Syrian Armenians will keep their strong positions in case the power changes in Syria.
