Candidate for president of Armenia, Leader of the Union for National Self-Determination Party Paruyr Hayrikyan has come out with a statement on the past presidential election. In his statement Hayrikyan called on his supporters to cheer up.
"I don't say thank you because the truth was on our side, for the welfare of our people and our Motherland. We opposed direct terrorism and further slander campaign. Our mindless have not realized and will not realize what I have done for Armenia, and for them. But we know that our campaign was breached on January 31 and we just kept up the facade of our participation in order that attempt created little stir and terrorism found no place in the state life of Armenia. I wonder what will now say those who called Hayrikyan the henchman of the authorities. Cheer up, those who intrigue against us don't know what they will face," he said.
To note, by preliminary results of the election, the incumbent President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan obtained 58.64% (861,160 votes), the leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian - 36.75% (539,672), Hrant Bagratyan - 2.15%, Paruyr Hayrikyan - 1.23%, Andreas Ghukasyan - 0.57%, Vardan Sedrakyan - 0.42%, Arman Melikyan - 0.24%. The CIS and European observers gave generally positive assessment of the presidential election, calling it democratic and legitimate despite some insignificant violations.
