Political expert: Reports that the Azeri Parliament might adopt a law "On Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan" were just an attempt to see the reaction of the Azeri society, Armenia and the world community
Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
In Armenia small power plants are built on the basis of obsolete assessment of water resources, the head of the "Ecolur" non-governmental organization, Inga Zarafyan, told Arminfo correspondent.
"The projects of small power plants are based on the gutterways of rivers accounted from the 40s till the 70s. The situation has changed, some heads have disappeared and rivers changed their gutterways", - she said. She drew attention to the fact that in Armenia hydro power plants are often built at specially guarded territories. For instance, Megri river in the National Park "Arevik". "It is a cheap energy which requires minimal expenses. As a rule, very bad equipment is installed and there is no control. There are more than 100 functioning power plants in Armenia, where no audit was held by the Nature Protection Inspection", she said.
The programme for development of small power plants in Armenia is shameful. "No public hearing was held on the programme. It was taken without any normative on the ecological run-off or the information about the fish types in this or that river", - Zarafyan said. She offered to ban all the projects of small power plants till involvement of the "normal nature protection norms, which would be at least fixed in the legislation".
