"I feel ashamed for my country, which does not recognize Armenian Holocaust," Avner Biron, music director and permanent conductor of the Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem, said in a press conference in Yerevan, Monday.
"I have heard from my parents that the Armenian and Jewish peoples have much in common. I am surprised to see that the Armenian people could make its contribution to the world culture after such terrible testing and tragedy," the musician said. He touched upon the fact that Israel has not yet recognized the Armenian Genocide: "I feel ashamed for our government, which does not recognize the Armenian Holocaust under political pressure," he said.
Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem is participating in the 6th International Music Festival "Return" in Yerevan, Sept 24-31.
