Raffi Hovannisian: I will not admit recurrence of March 1 2008 developments

I will not admit recurrence of March 1 2008 developments at the expense of my life, Leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian said at a press conference in Yerevan.

During the Feb 18 presidential election, Armenian citizens demonstrated that the discontent in the country has reached big sizes, he said. Hovannisian added that the current situation cannot be compared with the situation in 2008. He said that he does not want any bloodshed and will not venture the citizerns' lives. In the meantime, Hovannisian said that he is not going to put up with the defeat imposed on the people.

Hovannisian said that according to the law he has an opportunity to appeal to the Constitutional Court against the presidential election results before March 2. This was rigged election, and the fraudsters should be punished, he said and added that he will not recognize the results of the rigged election. Hovannisian urged the governments of other countries not to hurry to congratulate Serzh Sargsyan, as the election was unfair. Whoever congratulates Sargsyan will become a
party to his false victory and anti-Armenian behavior during the election, consequently, they will be brought to responsibility, he said.

The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia published the final results of the Feb 18 president Election on Feb 25. The winner is incumbent President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan with 58.64% of the votes or 861,373 votes, followed by the leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian - 36.75% or 539,693, former Prime Minister of Armenia, the leader of Liberty Party Hrant Bagratyan - 2.15% or 31,643, the deader of National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan - 1.23% or 18,096, political scientist Andreas Ghukasyan - 0.57% or 8,329, folklorist Vardan Sedrakyan - 0.42% or 6,210 and former Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Arman Melikyan - 0.24% or 3,520.

Raffi Hovhannisian refuses to accept these figures and continues his protest actions all over Armenia.
