Court jury members are expected to pass a verdict on the alleged accomplices to
the murderer of the mutinous Georgian general, Roman Dumbadze. According to the City Court spokesperson,
Ulyana Solopova, there was a hearing of arguments in court on Monday and the
verdict will be passed at the next court session on July 22.
Dumbadze was shot dead on Rublevskoye
Highway, in Moscow, on May 21, 2012. He was serving life sentence in Georgia
for high treason. He fled the country after being swapped on twelve Georgian
hostages, captured during the Georgia-Russia war in August 2008. In 2012, on
the Russian President's decision, Dumbadze was granted Russian citizenship.
Three
persons are facing murder accomplice charges. One of them has pleaded guilty;
others have denied any involvement in the murder case.
The executor of the murder, Georgian
national, Gocha Kvirikashvili, 52, pleaded guilty. His case was considered
under special procedure. Under the verdict, Kvirikashvili will spend 13 years
in the maximum security penal colony. According to the investigation, the other
three persons on trial assisted Kvirikashvili in preparing the murder.
