At present a new government of Ukraine needs momentous events to inspire the Ukrainian society and make understand that Ukraine is not set adrift, the head of the working group of the National platform of the "Eastern partnership", Vladimir Kupriy, told Arminfo correspondent when commenting on the reasons of Kiev's intention to sign the political component of the Association Agreement with the EU on 21 March.
"I think that signing of the political component of the Association Agreement Ukraine-EU is a certain compromise between the naysayers of the European integration aspirations of Ukraine and those which are for the interests of Ukraine to sign the Association Agreement. The economic component of the Agreement is not simple and will be accompanied with a rather hard adaptation period. The current situation in the economy of Ukraine gives no prerequisite to say that the adaptation will be easy. As for signing only of the political component of the Agreement, it will bring only the image dividends in the created situation. In fact, without the economic component - it is a dry shot", - he said.
He thinks that one should expect for signing of the general Association Agreement only after election of the president of Ukraine. The expert is confident that Russia's aggression regarding Ukraine will become a unique cold shower for the supporters of the pro-Russian vector of Kiev's foreign policy. He also added that at present it is very much difficult to estimate consequences of the current events. However, the attitude of the Ukrainian society regarding Russia will seriously change. "Not so much Putin's policy as the reaction of the Russian society and representatives of culture at the events in Ukraine affected that. For this reason, it will be difficult to persuade the Ukrainian society that we really have a friendly state in the east", - the expert concluded.
