"I will tell Azerbaijanis the truth about what I saw and felt here (in Armenia - editor's note), Pope Francis said during a press conference after leaving Armenia. This is how he replied to the question what his key message during his visit to Azerbaijan will be.
Sunday's in-flight press conference began with questions about the Apostolic Voyage to Armenia that Pope Francis had just concluded. Asked about his message for Armenia for the future, the Holy Father spoke about his hopes and prayers for justice and peace, and his encouragement that leaders are working to that end. In particular, he talked of the work of reconciliation with Turkey and with Azerbaijan. The Pope will be travelling to Azerbaijani later this year.
Pope Francis said that Armenians and Azerbaijanis should take efforts towards peace and that one should always try to find positive decisions, which are viable and can help the parties move forward.
He also expressed hope that Armenian people will find peace and justice.
"I was happy to see the photo of the Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents last week (the matter concerns the St. Petersburg summit on the Karabakh problem - editor's note). They are having talks at least," he said.
Pope Francis also touched on the Armenian-Turkish relations. He noted that in his greeting remarks the Armenian President made clear and brave calls to come to an agreement, forgive each other and look ahead.
"This is great bravery for the people, who have suffered so much," he said.
