Head of Inzhener-Yerkraban (Engineer-Geologist) LLC, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Rouben Yadoyan forecasts re-occurrence of Riga's tragedy in Yerevan. To recall, on November 21 the collapse of the roof of Maxima supermarket in Riga, Latvia, killed 54 people and injured dozens.
"We can experience the same situation in the center of Yerevan right now", he says to ArmInfo's correspondent. He points out that three water levels were connected during the construction of the Yerevan Metro. Any section from the right bank of the River Getar to Ghukasyan Street may collapse today.
He says that Northern Avenue is also in that zone. "There are huge buildings in that zone. I have applied to the Municipality, to the President and to the Government. I have repeatedly said that the situation is very dangerous", he says.
Earlier Karine Danielyan, Head of the Association For Sustainable Human Development, said that the subsoil of Yerevan is not "adjusted" to the new buildings. "Geologists have warned that one should not build such huge structures in Northern Avenue. But the greed for gain is our heel of Achilles, which is stronger than all the other arguments", said Danielyan.
