During a meeting with CoE Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks on May 26, Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan informed the Commissioner of the atrocities committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces against the Karabakh people during the April escalation along the line of contact. He stressed that these events were the result of Baku's policy of Armenophobia.
The press service of the Armenian Human Rights Defender's Office has told ArmInfo that Tatoyan stressed the importance of the NKR human rights defender's participation in the high-level international discussions. He noted that the Azerbaijani aggression was directed against the civilian population of the NKR and the human rights protection is becoming a priority.
During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed issues related to programs on introduction of European human rights protection standards in Armenia. In this light, Nils Muiznieks stressed the importance of resisting ill treatment in prisons, as well as the significance of cooperation between the civil society and independent experts. The sides also emphasized the important role of the Ombudsman's Office in protection of children's rights, resistance to domestic violence, and integration of people with disabilities.
The sides expressed willingness to actively cooperate in addressing the specified issues to achieve efficient results.
