The issue of impossibility of Karabakh's return to Azerbaijan in any status is currently on the agenda of discussions, Russian Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Igor Popov said at a new conference in Yerevan on April 9.
When asked about the need for Karabakh's return to the negotiating table, the Russian co-chair stressed that the co-chairs have repeatedly stressed that at a certain point the Karabakh side should return to the negotiating table. He said that the stage of signing of a framework agreement may become such a point.
At the same time, when speaking of the current situation in the region, Popov noted that the key goal of the co-chairs' visit to the region is to help the sides stabilize the situation and to prevent recurrence of military actions in the Karabakh conflict zone.
"During the meetings with the military and political authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as with the de facto representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh, we said that it is necessary to do everything to maintain peace. It is now important to bring the sides to the table. The meetings also covered issues related to restoration of confidence building measures between the sides. We will hold another meeting in a week to continue the negotiations," Popov said. He also stressed that the co-chairs will pay another visit to the region when it becomes possible.
