Defense Ministry of Armenia on voter fraud

 Defense Ministry of Armenia has responded to the information available on Raffi Hovannisian's website regarding voter fraud during voting of servicemen.  According to www.raffi4president.am , an officer forced a soldier to vote for the 'necessary' candidate at a polling station. A relevant photo is also available on the website.

In this context, the Ministry declares that observes and representatives of campaign headquarters registered no voter fraud the in the course of voting of servicemen at any of the 1988 polling stations.

"Nevertheless, the Ministry does not rule out such possibility and expects specific information on the place and time of the incident to inquire into it and bring responsible those guilty," the statement reads.

To note, by preliminary results of the election, the incumbent President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan obtained 58.64% (861,160 votes), the leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian - 36.75% (539,672), Hrant Bagratyan - 2.15%, Paruyr Hayrikyan - 1.23%, Andreas Ghukasyan - 0.57%, Vardan Sedrakyan - 0.42%, Arman Melikyan - 0.24%.  The CIS and European observers gave generally positive assessment of the presidential election, calling it democratic and legitimate despite some insignificant violations.
