Today, on March 24, the National Assembly of Armenia passed a draft resolution condemning the genocide against Greeks and Assyrians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-23. The document was passed with 117 votes "for," no votes "against" or "abstention."
"Guided with the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 96 of 11 December 1946, titled "The Crime of Genocide," the Dec 9 1946 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and Nov 26 1968 Convention on the non- applicability of statutory limitations to war crimes and crimes against humanity, as well as with relevant principles and provisions of other international human rights acts; Considering the centuries-old friendly relations of the Armenian, Greek and Assyrian people;
The National Assembly of Armenia condemns the genocide against Greeks and Assyrians in Ottoman Turkey in 1915-1923," the Resolution reads.
The document was passed unanimously and welcomed by the Armenian parliamentarians with applauds.
