Swiss Ambassador to Armenia Lukas Gasser: Switzerland will try to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without questioning the established formats such as the OSCE Minsk process
by Nana Martirosyan
The Armenian Parliament has held debates on the competence of Russian frontier guards. In particular, the Armenian MPs discussed the legal reasons of hindering the movement of Heritage Faction MP Zaruhi Postanjyan in Syunik region.
The given issue was raised by Nikol Pashniyan, MP from the Armenian National Congress Faction. He stressed that he had addressed the relevant question to Gorik Hakobyan, Head of the National Security Service of Armenia, however, the latter replied that the issue about the legal reasons of the Russian special services' actions should be addressed to Speaker of Armenian Parliament Hovik Abrahamyan.
Abrahamyan, in turn, said that he had applied to the commander of the frontier guards. Zaruhi Postanjyan stressed that despite the Speaker's promises, Abrahamyan gave her no opportunity to read the reply of the commander of frontier guards.
"In the situation when the citizens' rights to free movement are restricted, the Speaker of Parliament should interfere and find out the reasons. If they had such a right, why didn't they act jointly with the Armenian law-enforcers; and if they didn't, why haven't they been brought to responsibility?" asked Postanjyan. Abrahamyan expressed his readiness to present the commander's reply to any MP.
According to Speaker Abrahamyan, the commander's reply said that the operation was conducted not by the Russian frontier guards, but by the Armenian law-enforcers and that Postanjyan distorts the reality. The Speaker stressed that he is inclined to believe the commander of the Russian frontier guards rather than Postanjyan, who "likes slandering".
To note, on September 25 the Russian frontier guards hindered the movement of Heritage MP Zaruhi Postanjyan on her way to Meghri, where she and other representatives of Heritage were going to conduct an electoral campaign at majority constituency No.38 of Syunik region.
