Swiss Ambassador to Armenia Lukas Gasser: Switzerland will try to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without questioning the established formats such as the OSCE Minsk process

The third term of presidency will create many problems for Ilham Aliyev. The first and foremost, Aliyev will have to chose the foreign political course of Azerbaijan, Anar Mammadli, Director of the Baku-based Election Monitoring and Teaching Democracy Center, said in an online interview with ArmInfo.
"I have no reliable information on Ilham Aliyev's intentions to join the Eurasian Union. Nevertheless, I think, it will be very hard for him to leave the Eastern Partnership Project. At the same time, I don't think that Russia will be able to influence Aliyev's decision by means of the Karabakh conflict. Finally, some pro-governmental analysts and politicians already speak of Azerbaijan's possible accession to the Customs Union. This means that there are supporters of this course behind the scenes," Mammadli said.
Asked if it is reasonable to expect any changes in Aliyev's rhetoric addressed to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh after 9 October, Mammadli said he has not heard Aliyev to make any promises to resolve the conflict during his campaign. The expert thinks that Aliyev will continue his trigger-happy policy also in future.
Joint online press conference of experts from various countries for Armenian, Azerbaijani and Georgian mass media on the relevant problems are organized within the project "Expansion of knowledge of Armenians and Azerbaijanis about each other and confidence building through first-hand information". The project of the "Region" Research Center (Armenia) and Peace and Democracy Institute (Azerbaijan) is supported by the British Embassies in Armenia and Azerbaijan.
