Republican Party sweeps elections to local self-government again

  • Monday, September 24, 14:36

Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) swept the elections to the local self- government in five regions of Armenia on September 23.

Thus, Republican candidates Bagrat Haroutiunyan, Rudik Ghukasyan and Volodya Khloyan were elected mayors of Martuni, Sevan and Vardenis, Gegharkunik region. Only non-party man Gurgen Martirosyan defeated the Republican candidate and was elected mayor of Gavar, in the same region.

Another Republican candidate Armen Antonyan was elected mayor of Ashtarak, Aragatsotn region. RPA candidates swept the elections also in Tavush region. Thus, Armen Santrosyan was elected Dilijan Mayor, Haroutyun Manucharyan - Berd Mayor and Vanush Amiragyan - Noyemberyan Mayor.  Prosperous Armenia Party won the elections in Kotayk region, where PAP Leader Gagik Tsarukyan lives.

Thus, Tsarukyan's son-in-law Karapetyan Guloyan was elected Abovyan Mayor, and PAP candidate Kamo Grigoryan was elected Head of Balahovit Administrative District.

The victory of PAP candidate David Haroutiunyan in the election to the post of Yeghegnadzor Mayor, Vayots Dzor region, proved quite unexpected for both RPA and PAP.
