Tbilisi. Ruslan Ovsyanetskiy, RF citizen and a captain of the Maltese-flagged cargo ship LANA, has been fined for sea area pollution in Georgia - Border Police of the Ministry of Interior of Georgia (MoI) reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, officers of the operative-investigative division of the Ministry of Energy and Protection of Natural Resources of Georgia, as well as the Black Sea Protection Service, detained LANA cargo vessel for discharge of hydraulic liquid in the Poti Port sea area (Western Georgia).
Criminal proceedings against the vessel captain were instituted pursuant to Article 58, Part 7, of the Code of Administrative Offences of Georgia
Then, under the Poti City Court ruling, the Russian captain was imposed a fine of GEL 65thousand (approx. US$ 40 thousand) and a compensation for damage to the environment, amounting to GEL 553.2 (approx. US$335).
