Cyprus condemns the fact of pardoning of the Azeri officer Ramil Safarov, who committed a monstrous crime, Foreign Minister of Cyprus Erato Kozakou Marcoullis said during a meeting with her Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian.
She also expressed her concern over the impact of this decision on the situation in the region and stressed that Azerbaijan should observe the standards of international law and keep its promise that the murderer must serve his sentence in the homeland.
As regards Armenian-Turkish relations, the minister welcomed Yerevan's efforts exerted for gaining stability in the region and establishing relations with Ankara. She added that Turkey displays a destructive approach in this matter by refusing to ratify the Armenian-Turkish protocols. She stressed that Cyprus has a bitter experience of negotiations with Ankara, which constantly refuses to implement the arrangements reached. Turkey prefers speaking the
language of threats and illegal actions, she said.
The meeting also covered issues of bilateral relations between Armenia and Cyprus and their interaction in the processes of settlement of the Karabakh and Cyprus conflicts.
