Tbilisi. On the threshold of the upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled in Georgia for October 1, President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili made a statement about significance of state interests' defence and mentioned Russia and President of RF Vladimir Putin on air of Georgian TV, on Friday, near St. Bagrat Cathedral (Kutaisi, Imereti region)
"We can have different points of view of the country' foreign policy, but a common aspiration to see our country de-occupied and unified can not help uniting us", Saakashvili stressed.
"We can see the world map differently. But we should remember the Georgian nation's many century aspiration to Europe. We can not reject a decision, expressed by our people at the referendum, that our country must become NATO member", Saakashvili stressed.
"No one political objective, no one political ambition worth inflicting damage to the country's unity and its perspectives", he said.
"If we love our country and want better future for our children, we must understand what units us better than what separates us. We are united by the aims of struggle, waged by David Agmashenebeli, and what Ilia Chavchavadze died for. It is united and strong Georgia and our people's benefit", President stressed.
"We can have different economic points of view, but we are united by the common aim- to prevent return of corruption to Georgia. Our points of view of security policy can differ, but we are united by the political will to prevent return of thieves in law to the country and governing the country by criminals", Saakashvili pointed out.
Saakashvili also called on all political parties to unite and attend opening of St.Bagrat Cathedral in Kutaisi on Sunday.
"Let's don't be afraid of unity and remember that we are united in all issues of our country's life. I call on youth and old people, enemies and friends to state that first of all we are patriots of Georgia and then Christian- Democrats, Nationals, right win and left wing representatives. We should come to the opening of St. Bagrat Cathedral", Saakashvili said.
According to him, "this Cathedral was a symbol of complete destruction, and now it is a symbol of complete revival".
"Let's restore jointly our national unity", President noted.
"I join the appeal of the Patriarch of All Georgia, despite differences of political points of views, we should all come to the consecration of the Cathedral", Saakashvili noted.
"There are issues we should be united with regard to. Our main force is our unity, we have it and it has always saved Georgia", President emphasized.
