Design deviations detected under project to build Khachaghbyur-2 small WPP

 A number of design deviations have been detected under the project to build Khachaghbyur-2 small water power plant on Paghjur river, Armenia's Environment Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan said in the Armenian Parliament on Wednesday.

He said that the deviations were detected by a special committee monitoring the construction of Khachaghbyur-1 and Khachaghbyur-2.

Oct 16 Trchkan Civil Initiative sent Harutyunyan an inquiry concerning the Khachaghbyur-2 Water Power Plant project. The greens pointed out that the contractor of the project, Megaenergy, was carrying out the construction in the territory of two nature reserves, while its papers said that there were no protected lands in the project area. "They say that no trees will be cut down as the pipeline will run along the road.  But in reality there is no road in
the area and the 2.8 km long pipeline will run through woods, with lots of trees to be cut. In fact, there has been no environmental examination. So, we want to know why the Environmental Inspection has given green-light to this project and who will be responsible for these lies contained in the project documentation and for the damages being caused to nature," the greens said.
