Parliament Vice-Speaker and Republican Party press-secretary Edward Sharmazanov has harshly criticized Levon Ter-Petrosyan's speech concerning the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
While delivering his speech from the National Assembly rostrum, Sharmazanov said that Ter-Petrosyan's speech could not be considered a document meeting Armenia's national interests. According to the vice- speaker, it is extremely dispiriting knowing that the document was written by Armenia's first President. "I can bindingly state that Ter-Petrosyan's message inters the whole Armenian world's national demands addressed to Turkey. Ter-Petrosyan sows discord between the Armenia-Diaspora-Artsakh trinity. That is absurd", emphasized Sharmazanov.
The Republican believes absurd Ter-Petrosyan's suggestion that the EU should not be demanding of Ankara to recognize the Armenian Genocide as a stipulation of Turkey's accession to the EU, given that the European countries and bodies are recognizing the tragedy. Sharmazanov negatively estimates Ter- Petrosyan's statements that "the Armenian-Turkish relations are related to the Karabakh settlement".
"For 5 years Armenia has been obstructing Ankara's attempts at intervening the Karabakh settlement, but suddenly our first President says that the processes are interconnected.
That is absurd", believes the vice- speaker.
