Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the first president of Armenia, leader of the Armenian National Congress, no longer sees any reason to meet with President Serzh Sargsyan, ANC Spokesman Arman Musinyan says in a statement.
"Ter-Petrosyan is satisfied with Sargsyan's response to his open letter. Sargsyan has clearly expressed his stand on the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the Armenian Genocide Centennial", Musinyan says. He also points out that unlike Sagsyan, the first president does not think that the document reflects the stand of the Armenians worldwide. "Moreover, Ter-Petrosyan believes that the Declaration is full of serious threats to Armenia and Artsakh; consequently, it cannot reflect the stand of all Armenians without a referendum. Ter-Petrosyan no longer sees any reason to meet with Sargsyan because the discussion has become public", Musinyan stresses.
To note, in his Feb 17 open letter, Levon Ter-Petrosyan expressed his negative attitude to the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the Armenian Genocide Centennial, which does not only fail to boost the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, but also turns even the friendly countries against Armenia. Ter-Petrosyan also offered Sargsyan to meet and discuss creation of an advisory commission. On Feb 20, Serzh Sargsyan replied to Ter-Petrosyan and expressed readiness to meet with him. "I see no problems. I am ready to send you the relevant invitation at your convenience to meet and discuss the issues related to the Armenian Genocide centennial events", said Sargsyan.
