Prosperous Armenia Party to run for Elders' Council of Yerevan, Hraparak newspaper reports referring to its source in Prosperous Armenia Party.
The paper reports that at the given moment Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) is waiting for final formation of the new opposition pole and for possible offer to join the coalition. Afterwards, the party will determine its further steps. The paper writes that the decision to run to the Elders' Council of Yerevan is strong, but format of participation also depends on the above processes. The paper's sources confirmed the rumors circulating behind the scenes there days that Sedrak Kocharyan, the son of the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, may be included in the PAP proportional list at the upcoming elections to the Elders' Council in case of certain developments.
To recall, the Government of Armenia adopted a decision on Feb 14 to appoint the Elections to the Elders' Council on May 5 in line with the Law on the Local Self-Government of Yerevan. The Elders' Council will elect the Yerevan Mayor. In compliance with the above law the Council consists of 65 members elected for a 4-year term.
