Although Armenia does not welcome Russia selling weapons to Azerbaijan, but these are business and trade issues, probably. Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian made such statement in response to BBC Russia's question as to whether Yerevan is concerned that Russia sells weapons to both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"We cooperate with Russia in the military field buying and receiving weapons from it. There is nothing new in this. As to the Russian arms deals with Azerbaijan and other countries, perhaps, it is natural, as Russia produces weapons and is a big actor in the arms market. However, we have allied relations with Russia, which matters," the minister said.
As to the relations with the European Union, Nalbandian said Armenia is ready to develop cooperation with the EU in the sectors that do not run contrary to the country's commitments to the Eurasian Economic Union. "We are members of the EEU. Did we speak about the EU membership then? No! These are quite different categories. We are members of the economic union that gives us certain benefits, certain commitments, and Armenia will be building in relations with other countries basing on these commitments," Nalbandian said.
As for Armenia's stand on Ukraine, Nalbandian said Armenia sympathizes with the people of Ukraine. "You know that there are many Armenians there. There is a 500,000-strong Armenian community in Ukraine. Speaking about our stand and support is not a solution to the problem. As for the sanctions, I do not think that sanctions are a solution to the issue. Any problems should be settled through dialogue and negotiations. It is the best way to settle any conflicts and discrepancies emerging on the international arena," Nalbandian said.
