Washington gives high priority to the partnership with Armenia. The United States has helped Armenia to strengthen its democratic values and develop its economy for 25 years, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Jane Nuland said at today's press conference in Yerevan.
She said that the U.S. keeps promoting cooperation with Armenia and it is proud to see that 2.5 million American Armenians contribute to strengthening of these ties.
Nuland pointed out that her meetings with the country's high-ranking officials covered issues related to security, the situation in the region, economic problems, development of democracy, human rights protection and strengthening of the civil society. She thinks that Armenia's strong point is its viable civil society and that the society-government dialogue on the key problems is of key importance. She also emphasized the importance of cooperation on measures to combat corruption.
She added that the U.S. Embassy and the Government of Armenia are launching a new project to combat corruption. The project implies introduction of e-governance, improvement of the business environment, ensuring equal conditions for investors, and other measures.
Nuland also expressed her gratitude to the Armenian President for participation of the Armenian servicemen in the peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Lebanon. Nuland is also grateful to the Armenian Government for generous assistance to the refugees from Syria.
