Armenia's Police have dispersed the protest against the electricity prices hikes after weeks of sit-in on Baghramyan Avenue where the president's headquarters is located.
The Police have opened the traffic way by leaving the barricades of litterbins separating the protesters and police for two weeks. Most of the protesters have been detained. ArmInfo's correspondent reports from the scene that Valery Osipyan, the deputy chief of the Police, ran along the avenue urging police officers not to use force against the activists. "Don't use force, they are sisters and brothers," Osipyan urged his subordinates. Perhaps, he forgot that on June 23, the Police under his personal control used water cannons to disperse the sit-in from Baghramyan Ave.
To recall, the protests in Baghramyan Avenue in Yerevan have continued since June 23. The coordinating group of the protests has changed and the number of protesters has decreased tangibly. The new organizers announced on July 4 that they would be moving the barricades of litterbins a step forwards everyday, starting 9:00pm on July 6, unless their demands are fulfilled.
