European integration and European Association would have a positive outcome for Armenia, U.S. Ambassador John Heffern said in an interview with a Yerevan- based Zhamanak Daily. The ambassador said he has been committed to Armenia's European integration since his appointment to the country.
Speaking of Yerevan's decision to change the development vector in favor of the Russia-led Customs Union, the diplomat said he does not know the reasons of such decision. In addition, the ambassador said, it was a sovereign decision of Armenia. Heffern noted that the government and the private sector of Armenia were offered such ways of cooperation that did not ran contrary to their political will. The U.S. expects specific signals from the government and the president that would show their readiness to work on the issues. "In case of the Armenian leadership's political will, we are ready to cooperate with the country in the political, economic and security fields," the Ambassador said.
