Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
Elections to the local self-government are a litmus paper for the presidential election of 2013, says Aharon Adibekyan, Head of Sociometer Sociology Center.
He told media Thursday that the future candidate for president representing the Republican Party has all chances for a victory, because RPA's positions at the local self-government elections are the strongest.
"At present 70% of the community heads in Armenia are Republicans. Experience shows that at elections to the local self-government candidates are consistently re-elected. One can easily forecast that at the upcoming elections to the local self-government the Republican Party will again win. This, in turn, will contribute to the victory of the Republican candidate for president in 2013, because the community heads will work in his favor," the sociologist said. As
regards Prosperous Armenia and Orinats Yerkir parties, he said, they will receive 25% of votes at best.
He said that marginal political forces underestimate the importance of the local self-government elections and do not participate in them. In the meantime, Adibekyan said, in the countries with developed democracy political forces achieve success just starting from the municipal elections.
