Swiss Ambassador to Armenia Lukas Gasser: Switzerland will try to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without questioning the established formats such as the OSCE Minsk process
On Oct 7 night, the police of Yerevan detained activist Vahagn Minasyan, who was holding a sit-down picket near the Municipality of Yerevan.
The press service of the Police reports that Minasyan was disturbing the public peace in a drunken state. "Vahagn M. stood on the stairs of the Yerevan Municipality building and started crying where the policeman was. The policeman on duty tried to find out what had happened. He tried to calm down the activist, however, the latter started using hard words and was taken to the police station", says the Police's statement.
In the meantime, Vahagn Minasyan himself states that the policemen displayed a scornful attitude towards him. He said that the police should be on day-and-night duty and he tried to find out where the policeman on duty was. "When I asked where the policemen was, the man in the car came out and started insulting me. He said that he did not have to report to me and then started uttering obscenities. This resulted in a verbal duel and I was taken to the police station", says the activist.
To note, the movement "Let's Pay 100 AMD" was initiated following the 50% rise in the public transport fare. Due to the numerous actions of protest throughout Yerevan the decision of the Municipality was suspended. However, this did not stop the activists. Three of them - Vahagn Minsayan, Suren Sahakyan and Gor Arakelyan - started picketing the Municipality building. They demand resignation of Henrik Navasardyan, Head of the Transport Department of the Municipality, and Misak Hambardzumyan, Director of Yerevantrans LLC.
