Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
The second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan will not run for president of Armenia if he familiarizes with the results of the population poll conducted by Sociometer Sociology Center, Aharon Adibekyan, the head of the Center, told media, Wednesday.
He said that the poll aimed to reveal the public opinion of the upcoming presidential election. Asked to comment on the probability of Robert Kocharyan's running for the president, Adibekyan said that his position in the rating does not allow him to claim the presidential post. He said that two polls have already been conducted and the final results will be made public in a week.
Aharon Adibekyan said that unlike similar stages of the past elections in the country, the public has been displaying more political activity. The sociologist said that 50% of the polled citizens have already made their opinion of the upcoming elections, while earlier this indicator was just 30%. Aharon Adibekyan said that the presidential election will be heated if Prosperous Armenia Party is the key alternative political force to the incumbent president. There will be no tensions, if PAP does not run for the president, he said.
