The Constitutional reforms envisage an attempt to bypass the ban on being elected as a president for the third term, Levon Zurabyan, the head of the Armenian National Congress faction, told the media on Aug 25.
"We are against the Constitutional reforms for we clearly know the true intentions of the ruling regime. The authorities are bending every effort to retain power", the politician says.
According to the politician, Armenia lacks consensus if it is necessary to carry out reforms. There used to be a consensus against the reforms, however, the authorities destroyed that union. Zurabyan has informed that ANC has declined president Serzh Sargsyan's invitation to participate in the discussions on the reforms.
To recall, on August 20, the Commission for Constitutional Reform approved the draft Constitutional Reforms with enclosed substantiations and submitted it to President Serzh Sargsyan, who, in turn, submitted it to the Parliament on August 21. The president plans to hold discussions with the political forces over their approaches to the Constitutional amendments included in the draft document.
