There is not a single guarantee that Turkey will not close the Turkish-Armenian border after opening it on the threshold of the 100th mourning anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The Armenian-Turkish relations will remain unchanged until Turks quit their anti- Armenian policy, turcologist Hakob Chakryan said at today's press conference when commenting on the recent publication in Taraf newspaper.
"Ankara has repeatedly expressed willingness to open the border but has failed to do that. The problem is the lack of relations between Armenia and Turkey. In this light, it is necessary not only to unblock the border but also to establish diplomatic relations. If the countries launch diplomatic ties, the problem of opening of the border will be settled itself", he said.
The international community demands that Ankara should recognize the Armenian Genocide and these demands hinder Turkey's active foreign policy, Chakryan said. The Turkish authorities have to find new solutions to satisfy the foreign partners' demands at least partially. "This is how I explain Recep Erdogan's condolences to the descendants of the Armenian Genocide victims. I am convinced that Erdogan's statement will bring him no benefits in his electoral campaign", said Chakryan
