Rasmussen Calls on Georgia to Continue its Course

Tbilisi. Georgia and NATO have special partnership and close relations, that has resulted in Georgia's participation in all partner meetings (in NATO Chicago Summit), NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen noted it in his statement in the official web-page in Facebook social net.

President of Georgia headed the Georgian delegation during the visit to the USA on the occasion of NATO Chicago Summit on May 20-21. The Georgian delegation participated in all meetings that were held in the framework of the Summit.  Namely, those were meetings with main partners in 28+13 format, with future members, the so called aspirant countries, in 28+4 format and with the states, participating in the peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan in the format 28+ISAF.

According to Rasmussen, the allies appreciate Georgia's role in a process of peaceful settlement of the conflicts in the Caucasus and its attempt to strengthen confidence with Russia.

                "At the Bucharest Summit the Alliance stated that Georgia would become NATO member. Now this statement has been voiced again. Much is to be done as the way to NATO is not easy. But Georgia's aspiration is great and it has achieved a progress. We call on Georgia to continue the course, it has undertaken", the NATO Secretary General stresses.

                On Monday, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Anders Fogh Rasmussen at the joint briefing with the head of the Georgian state Mikheil Saakashvili congratulated Georgia with the progress, it had achieved in the sphere of reforms implementation.  He also expressed gratitude to Georgia for its contribution  into the peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
