Political expert: Reports that the Azeri Parliament might adopt a law "On Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan" were just an attempt to see the reaction of the Azeri society, Armenia and the world community
Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
One should give Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) 100 days to see what place it will occupy in the domestic political field and whether it will become a real opposition party. Now it is early to speak of the real status of this party, Deputy Chairman of Board of the opposition Heritage Party, Rouben Hakobyan,
told ArmInfo when commenting on today's refusal of the PAP to form a coalition with the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
Hakobyan thinks that if the PAP has a sincere intention to become a counterweight to the ruling RPA, this circumstance will contribute to recovery of the political field.
When asked whether the PAP Leader Gagik Tsarukyan's business will suffer from his refusal to join the coalition, Hakobyan said that Tsarukyan is well aware of the possible risks. "When the country lacks a normal business climate, supremacy of law, and experiences a fusion of the power and business, Tsarukyan's joining the opposition really contains a lot of risks. Nevertheless, today there is a real opportunity to change the situation and the case with the PAP leader may become a good precedent", Hakobyan said.
To recall, Leader of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan disseminated a statement on May 24 saying that PAP considers it unreasonable creating a ruling coalition with the Republican Party of Armenia. "During my meetings with voters I had always said that I pursue no personal goals in politics. Moreover, I have always been ready for losses to preserve the people's trust. PAP received over half a million of votes during the elections. Those people voted in favor of PAP as they trust in us and demand real visible changes in the country's social and economic life. The election outcome does not
give Prosperous Armenia a Constitutional opportunity to form the government to implement its programs. Therefore, I state that PAP does not consider it reasonable to participate in formation of the government," Tsarukyan said in his statement.
