It is very much possible that the PAP and the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) will informally cooperate in the National Assembly of the new
convocation, political expert Aleksandr Markarov told Arminfo correspondent when commenting on today's refusal of the PAP to form a coalition with the RPA.
He also added that from time to time the PAP will make informal "coalition" with republicans, but in that case they will have different positions regarding any key issues. At the same time, the expert does not think that the PAP will conduct the course similar to that of the Armenian National Congress - to go against initiatives of the authorities.
Asked if the PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan's business will suffer because of his refusal to join the coalition, Markarov replied that if the business is done only within the frames of the legislation of the country, political processes cannot be the reason for imposing pressure upon the businessman.
To recall, the leader of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan disseminated a statement on May 24 saying that PAP considers it unreasonable creating a ruling coalition with the Republican Party of Armenia.
Tsarukyan says that it is high time for serious changes and PAP ran for the parliament with relevant comprehensive program. "During my meetings with voters I had always said that I pursue no personal goals in politics. Moreover, I have always been ready for losses to preserve the people's trust. PAP received over half a million of votes during the elections. Those people voted in favor of PAP as they trust in us and demand real visible changes in the country's social and economic life," the statement reads.
The election outcome does not give Prosperous Armenia a Constitutional opportunity to form the government to implement its programs. Therefore, I state that PAP does not consider it reasonable to participate in formation of the government," Tsarukyan says.
In addition, the statement reads, PAP will further play a serious role in the political life of the country. In the National Assembly of the new convocation PAP faction will launch vigorous activity protecting the rights, interests and freedoms of citizens.
